The PEST Newsletter

The weekly PEST Newsletter was founded by Dennis Zhang in the 2017-2018 school year.

The first edition of its first volume was sent to the entire school on October 29, 2017.

In 2018, D. Zhang ’20 modified the newsletter’s graphic layout and editing process during its first two years.

In 2019, Sam Shi ’21 was in charge of the newly reformatted newsletter.

Since 2020, Bao To ’23 continued the tradition as the editor of the weekly newsletter and recruited more writers to contribute to the project.

Contributing Writers: Bao To ’23, Juliette Jimenez ’23, Aydan Ali ’23, Michael Li ’23

The newsletter includes 5 main sections:

  1. An environmental issue
  2. An elaboration on the issue
  3. A piece of statistic or fun fact about the issue
  4. 3 ways that audience members can help out
  5. A related “enviro-meme”
  6. Club News (sometimes)

Here’s the current editing process:

  1. The editor makes a template for the Newsletter.
  2. PEST members interested in the project and the editor come together to brainstorm ideas.
  3. The editor writes a newsletter or edits one written by a member.
  4. An edited draft is sent by the editor to the club advisor.
  5. The club advisor approves the draft.
  6. The editor revises the draft for a final time.
  7. The editor sends the final draft to the entire school (on a weekly basis).
