Jad Daley ’86

On Monday, April 15, 2019, Jad Daley ’86 came to Peddie and gave a chapel speech on the Earth’s environmental catastrophe, as well as ways students could help out as they headed off into college and their professional lives. Daley, who was recently named the president and CEO of American Forests, the first forest conservation organization in America, believes in the power of forests in remedying the Earth’s impending disaster.

Despite his significant role in environmentalism today, Daley’s journey into the field was somewhat untraditional. After graduating as an art history major from Brown University, Daley returned to Peddie as a teacher, teaching a course on literature and the environment. Not long after teaching, Daley headed off into the conservation industry.

It was through leading multiple conservation programs and coalitions that Daley ended up where he is today.

After his chapel speech, Daley took time out of his busy schedule to have lunch with interested Peddie students for a short Q&A. Among various other questions, when asked if PEST could partner with his organization for a future project, he enthusiastically said “yes!”
